ArtJournalExpressLogoHappy Monday everyone!  Welcome to another edition of  Art Journal Express – a free weekly video tutorial series posted each Monday where I show you how I created one of my art journal pages from start to finish. Each and
every Art Journal Express video tutorial is in “fast forward” mode and then narrated so that you can see each and every step and hear my thoughts behind my process without having to sit through a loooong video.

Today’s page is called “Follow Your Heart”.

This page for me was an exploration of texture and colour.  A few months ago I had created a similar texture on another art journal page and loved it so much that I decided to re-create it for this page and adding in some of my favourite colours.  The colours that you see on this page are some of what I call my “happy colours” – they make me happy just looking at them LOL.  The message behind this page for me was a reminder to myself that I need to take more time to listen to my own heart and try not to get caught up in what others think I should be doing.  There are so many wonderful things we could do with our lives that sometimes our true calling can get lost in the “noise”that constantly surrounds us and the demands that pull at us.  All too often I find that I have to stop and do a reality check – take time to listen to my own heart and ask myself whether I am following the Lord’s leading as I strive to do, or am I getting pulled into something that while good, is not what I am meant to do or be. a

The journal that I’m working in is my Dylusions journal which you can see pictured below – and it’s the large Dylusions journal.  This will likely be the journal that I use for every one of my Art Journal Express Video tutorials is this is my current go-to journal or what I call my “working” journal.

Below is a photo of the supplies I used for this page – a combination of acrylic paints, india ink, stamps and washi tape.

Here are the exact supplies I used for this page:   Blick Artists’ Acrylic Titanium White (Dick Blick); Teal and Carbon Black Fluid Acrylic (Golden); Brilliant Yellow Green and Yellow Light Hansa Heavy Body Professional Acrylic, Gel Medium Matte  (Liquitex) Jet Black Archival Ink (Ranger); Black Bombay India Ink (Dr. Ph Martin);  Permaball Pen (Pilot – purchased from Scarlet Lime store); Charcoal Baker’s Twine (the Twinery); Neon Pink Wide Airmail Stripe washi tape (Freckled Fawn); Catalyst c-24 scraper (Catalyst); Follow Your Heart stamp (Catslife Press); Triangles Mask (Studio Calico); She Script stamp (Christy Tomlinson and Unity).

Here’s the video tutorial on how I made this page:

Here’s a close up of the page:

And here’s what the two page “spread” looks like in my art journal.  My preference has become to use the right page for my art journaling because I know that the pages are flat underneath as they are still untouched so anything I stamp will stamp pretty clear.  The other side of the 2 page “spread” – typically the left page – I use to list the supplies I used and for any directions/notes I want to remember about my page or the creative process or the supplies.
