Create Your Own Designer Chipboard Elements using Stampin' Up! Products

I’ve always strongly believed that creativity is a gift that we all possess – for some it comes naturally, for others it needs to be discovered and developed.

Interestingly though, creativity seems to ebb and flow – even amongst those who fully embrace and acknowledge themselves as creatives.

For the last few months I have found myself being swept along by a flow of creative ideas, and it’s been such a wonderful place to be! read more…

Donna Downey Studios Artist Gang 2015: “What Do You See?” Art Journal Page Video Tutorial

AG-AndreaOct.27Blog2

Welcome to another Donna Downey Studios Artist Gang Tuesday!

For my Artist Gang feature this month I decided to create an art journal page since it’s been awhile since I have had the opportunity to create anything.

If you’ve ever read any past posts of mine then you’ll know that for me, art is not about the finished product. Although I embrace art as an opportunity to grow and develop my creative side, more often than not, art is an exploration of my inner mental and emotional world. read more…

Video Tutorial – “Dropping In To Say Hi”

DroppingInToSayHiBlog

Since it’s been awhile since I have created and posted a video for you, (you can read about why HERE if you missed that post)  I decided to do exactly that for today’s post.

The card I created today uses only Stampin’ Up! Products & the main stamp set and punch I used are from the Holiday Mini Catalog.

I incorporated a variety of different techniques. First off, to create the acorns – I stamped the top and bottom images one at a time, and punched them out.  In the video I share a quick tip for minimizing cardstock wastage. read more…

When things don’t turn out the way you expect

Have you ever noticed that things don’t ever seem to go the way you plan?

I guess that’s why they say “life is what happens when you are busy making other plans”

Well this summer definitely lived up to that saying!

As many of you know I had surgery on June 2nd. It was my first surgery ever, and as far as surgeries go, I think it went quite well. I seemed to recover fairly quickly – at least enough that I was occasionally able to sneak down to my studio and create, post to my blog and send out email updates to you guys – all while my husband wasn’t paying attention LOL – because, you know, you’re actually supposed to rest after a surgery (how ’bout that?) read more…

The Myth of Creativity – Breaking Through Your Creative Barriers

CreativeBarrierGraphic

In all my years of blogging and teaching paper crafting – in speaking with and teaching thousands of card makers and mixed media artists around the world – the #1 thing that I hear, over and over again is this:

“I am not creative”, “I am not artistic”, “I can’t come up with my own ideas”,  “I don’t know how to take an idea and make it my own”.

Different ways of saying it – but ultimately all saying the same thing.  “I am not creative!”

I am here to tell you that this belief is absolutely, unequivocaly NOT TRUE! read more…

How to Transform an Ugly Card

Last week on Tuesday I sent out an email to those of you that are on the Sunny Stampin’ email newsletter list with a photo of a card I had created, and asked the following question “What do you do with an ugly card?”  I mentioned that I would share the transformation today, but in the meantime asked people to give me their suggestions on how I transformed it.

So, here is the “before” card:
