Stampin' Up! Punches Plus Template

Welcome to my Stampin’ Up! Try it Out Thursday – where I explore products from the Stampin’ Up! catalogue that tend to be little used or even ignored because either we don’t know what to do with it, or it’s out of our stamping "comfort zone".  The Punches Plus template is a perfect example.  I can’t even tell you which Stampin’ Up! Catalogue it came out in without going back through old catalogues.  I find that I tend not to use the classy brass templates too much because when I want to stamp a fast card I don’t feel like digging around in my laundry room for my light table (my *new* stamping supply storage area while the house is up for sale) and hauling it out.

I bought the Punches Plus template about 3 months ago after seeing it used on another blog not for dry embossing but with paper piercing to "frame" greetings.  This project was the first time I actually used it.  This layout totally comes from the Stampin’ Up! catalogue (you can see the card on pg. 58 using the "God is Love" stamp set), but it was so perfect for demonstrating how the Punches Plus template can be used that I decided to CASE the layout.

I made a 4" x 4" card using the new Fresh Cuts stamp set, and my *new* favorite color combination (at least for the time being – *lol*!):Soft Sky, Blue Bayou, Groovy Guava and Blush Blossom. I stamped the background image in black ink, colored it it using a blender pen and Groovy Guava and Certainly Celery ink.  To create the "frame" I took a piece of 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" Soft Sky textured CS and punched a hole in the middle using my 1 1/4" circle punch.  I then laid it on top of my foam mat & placed the classy brass template overtop of it as shown in the picture below:

I used my paper piercer to poke holes all around the outside of the punched window, simply following the class brass template.  You can see the final "window" below:

Once this was done, I cut out the portion of the image I wanted to show through the window (just a bit smaller than the frame) mounted it with Stampin’ Dimensionals and then to the card front.
