Stampin' Up! Stitched Background Stamp

You wouldn’t know it by looking at me, but ….*deep breath*….I LOVE BLING!  …There, I’m out of the closet now – LOL!  As a mom of soon to be 5 kids (under the age of 10), the last 10 years has been a steady stream of diapers & stained clothing (it happens in a flash….you are just about to wipe your toddler’s nose… when they suddenly throw their arms around you and bury their face in your shirt! Can you picture it?).  I rarely wear jewlery as it will just be grabbed, not to mention the fact that diamonds and stained clothing don’t really go together. Many days (more often than not recently) I don’t even have time to put on make up in the morning.  So, I’ve come to the conclusion that adding bling to my cards is a great way to express my repressed desires for all things sparkly- LOL! That is why my Stampin’ Up! team name is the "Glitter Junkies" after all.

On to "Try it Out" Thursday.  Have you ever noticed that we tend to use certain colors, certain layouts and certain products over and over again?  Well, the purpose of "Try it Out Thursday" is to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and pull out those products that you have but rarely use OR to encourage you to pull out your Stampin’ Up! Catalog and add something you’ve never tried before to your next order.

For my project today I pretty much used just about every form of bling that Stampin’ Up! offers:  Dazzling Diamonds glitter (applied to all the colored areas using my two-way glue pen), the wide grosgrain ribbon, rhinestone brads from my Pretties Kit,  Styled Silver Hodgepodge Hardware & my felt flowers.  I also decided to try a technique that I’ve never done before.  This technique was inspired by this card I saw on Mary Jo Albright’s blog.  I borrowed her concept of the alternating colored and non-colored blocks, but made it into a bit more of a mosaic.  So, for lack of a name, I’ve decided to call it the  "Mosaic Spotlight" technique.  Essentially you are creating a mosaic, and you are spotlighting portions of the image by coloring them in.
